Zakat is not just donations, they are trusts. Through them, hunger is removed, the sick receive care,
children gain education, and the helpless find shelter. Every rupee you give becomes a light of hope in someone’s life.
Zakat is sacred trusts, not mere donations. They ease hunger, provide healing, open doors to education,
and offer shelter to the helpless. Every rupee given becomes a light of hope, restoring dignity and changing lives.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“Islam is based on five principles: to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, to perform the prayers, to pay the Zakat, to perform Hajj, and to fast during Ramadan.”
(Sahih Bukhari, Book 2, Hadith 7)

The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“The upper hand (giver) is better than the lower hand (receiver). The upper hand is the one that spends, and the lower hand is the one that begs.”
(Sahih Bukhari, Book 24, Hadith 486)

The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“If any owner of gold or silver does not pay Zakat, plates of fire will be beaten out for him on the Day of Resurrection, and his sides, forehead, and back will be cauterized with them.”
(Sahih Bukhari, Book 24, Hadith 486)
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) emphasized Zakat as an act of worship, purification of wealth, and social justice.
These authentic narrations remind us of its obligation, its blessings, and the consequences of neglecting it.
“Islam is based on five principles… to pay the Zakat.” (Sahih Bukhari)
“If any owner of gold or silver does not pay Zakat… plates of fire will be beaten out for him.” (Sahih Bukhari)
“The upper hand (giver) is better than the lower hand (receiver).” (Sahih Bukhari)
“Zakat is a right that the poor have upon the rich.” (Sahih Bukhari)
“The wealth of a person does not decrease by paying Zakat.” (Sahih Bukhari)
The Qur’an clearly outlines who is eligible to receive Zakat, ensuring that it serves social welfare and justice.
Allah has specified eight groups, making Zakat a trust that must be delivered with honesty and precision.
Those who have no resources to meet even their most basic needs. They struggle daily for food, shelter, and clothing.
Those who are not completely destitute but live in constant hardship. They may earn something but it is far from enough for survival.
People appointed to administer and distribute Zakat. Their service to manage these funds makes them eligible to receive from it.
New Muslims or those inclined towards Islam, supported to strengthen their faith and bond with the Muslim community.
Historically, Zakat was used to ransom or free slaves. In today’s context, it can help those trapped in modern forms of bondage or oppression.
People burdened with debts they cannot repay, provided the debt is not for sinful purposes. Zakat can give them relief and dignity.
Spending in causes that serve Allah’s religion, such as spreading knowledge, education, supporting the poor, or defending the Muslim community.
Those stranded or away from home without means to continue their journey, deserving help to return safely.
For Poor and Needy Students (Fuqara & Masakin):
Zakat can support students who are truly poor or in hardship. It may cover their tuition fees, books, uniforms, or living expenses if they cannot afford them. For example, if a child from a low-income family needs help with school fees, Zakat can be given directly to them (tamleek – ownership transfer) so they can use it for their studies.
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty:
Education is a tool that lifts families out of poverty. By helping poor students, Zakat contributes to long-term self-reliance and community welfare, which is in line with the purpose of Zakat.
Knowledge as Light:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) described knowledge as “a light.” (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 267). Supporting education through rightful Zakat use spreads that light in society.
